From Meteors to Meteorites

feature photo

It is now an established fact that meteors hit the earth on a daily basis. But humans need not to worry because the moment meteors collide with the earth; majority of them drops as minute dust particles while burning itself more or less entirely in the atmosphere.

As soon as these meteors touch the ground, their name changes to meteorites. Thus, if you have observed a meteor shower and you’re lucky enough to find and get one of those bits, then what you might be holding is a meteorite. Researches have estimated that the earth gains 20,000 tons of mass from this process every day. These immigrants from the space vary from their sizes, composition, and speed. Furthermore, probably the most prominent impact occurred when a meteor the size of a loaf cuts through a car and implants itself in the asphalt below. Nonetheless, the probability of a single meteor hitting a person is so small and quite impossible.
