What if an Asteroid Hit the Earth?

feature photo

Asteroids are just like meteors, but different in one aspect. They are much larger than meteors, in fact they are very huge in size that an impact of a single asteroid – though with much less frequency – can wipe out a city entirely and kill every creature existing and working there. An asteroid with 100-meter diameter could actually kill 10,000 people in a direct impact on land; on the other hand, if it landed in the sea, the resulting tsunami could eradicate up to 100 million people.

Therefore, an asteroid large enough can cause the near-extinction or perhaps extinction of the human species. So should humans be worried about this possibility? I assume we should be. But I think the appropriate question is do we have the technology to divert an asteroid that might hit the earth by the time this misfortune takes place?
